A sizeable and growing percentage of the US population’s purchasing decisions are influenced by their values. This emerging culture has been identified in the market as “LOHAS” (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) consumers.
Your authenticity is highly relevant to the LOHAS consumer, who considers the impact of their purchases in the broader sense. Their consumption is values-driven and social and environmental responsibility are important to them.
They are highly involved, proactive, passionate and clever and should be approached as such. The majority of this group uses the internet as a daily resource for information and communication.
James Elson of Sustain Lane, speaking at a LOHAS marketing forum in 2006, said the following based on a series of nation wide focus groups conducted by his company: “What is striking is the amount of time the LOHAS market is spending online. The value of innovative and interactive media to educate and entertain cannot be understated.”
